94 point Master Wine 2013
Calamaco Gran Reserva 2010

Great performance of this proyect. Santiago Santamaria, who moved with his wife to Mendoza in 2002 and in 2010 decided with Tom Conel founding his winery. Best Malbec comes from 80 years old vineyards Agrelo and Consultation. While 24 months in new French oak is present, it is a deep, volatile, with flavors of cassis, cinnamon, black pepper and graphite.

Calamaco Gran Reserva Malbec 2010

The 2010 Malbec Gran Reserva has a voluptuous, opulent bouquet of ravishing dark cherry and blueberry fruit smothered in creamy new oak that is obvious, but impossible to resist. The palate is medium-bodied with luscious red fruit, crisp acidity and very fine tannins on the intense finish. This is a very astutely made wine with broad appeal, but it should age well. Drink now-2020.

Calamaco Reserva Malbec 2010

To rub salt into its wounds, the cheaper 2010 Reserva Malbec has good delineation and focus on the nose, with lively blackberry, raspberry and mint aromas that are more controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with sensual tannins, while the finish has plenty of tobacco-tinged, spicy black fruit to keep you happy. Drink now-2015.
